South Australia’s vocational education and training (VET) sector plays a central role in supporting industry, building skills and growing the state’s economy. A strong VET workforce helps South Australians gain the skills they need for jobs now and in the future.
The Strengthening the VET Workforce Implementation Framework 2026-29 explains how South Australia will build and support a skilled, capable and sustainable VET workforce.
Explaining VET Workforce implementation framework
The framework outlines a range for initiatives for:
- current VET educators
- people who want to become VET educators
- Registered Training Organisations (RTOs).
The framework was informed by feedback from across the VET sector, including:
- surveys and interviews with educators and RTOs
- consultations with peak bodies and unions
- research, workforce data and national priorities.
It aligns with the National VET Workforce Blueprint and reflects shared priorities across government, RTOs, educators and VET sector stakeholders.
The framework outlines the actions South Australia will take to:
- attract new educators into VET
- retain experienced educators
- strengthen capability through skills development and leadership
- support long-term workforce planning and growth.
These priorities are delivered through initiatives available via the VET and ACE Educator Hub, including professional development, resources, tools, scholarships and grants.
The framework is a living document and will be reviewed annually to ensure it reflects:
- evolving sector needs
- workforce trends
- emerging opportunities and challenges.
Evaluation reports will be published to show:
- what progress has been made
- what outcomes have been achieved
- where improvements are needed.
These insights will guide future updates and ongoing workforce planning.
