Elevate your practice, expand your perspective and bring global ideas back to South Australia.
International Research Fellowships give South Australian VET educators the opportunity to explore world-leading practice and turn global insights into real improvements at home.
Through international learning and applied research, Fellows strengthen their teaching, build leadership capability, and help drive innovation across the VET sector – delivering meaningful impact for learners, industry and communities.

International Research Fellowships are a funded opportunity for VET educators to step outside their everyday practice, engage with global expertise, and return with ideas that make a difference.
As a Fellow, you will:
- explore how leading countries approach vocational education and training
- connect with international experts, organisations and centres of excellence
- investigate new approaches to teaching, assessment and industry engagement
- develop practical solutions you can apply in your own context
- share your learning to benefit the broader VET sector.
This is not academic research – it’s hands-on, practical and focused on real-world outcomes. You’ll be supported to turn what you learn into tangible improvements that strengthen training and learner outcomes in South Australia.
The Fellowships are for passionate VET educators who want to grow their impact.
You can apply if you:
- live in South Australia and deliver training to South Australian students
- are applying as an individual or part of a small team (with at least one educator)
- are engaged with learners, industry or employers in your field.
You don’t need prior research experience – just curiosity, commitment and a clear idea of how your learning could make a difference to VET in South Australia.
Each Fellowship supports you to design and deliver a project that brings international insight into local practice.
This may include:
- overseas study visits, partnerships or virtual engagement with global leaders
- investigating new or emerging approaches in teaching, assessment or industry collaboration
- developing practical outputs such as tools, resources, frameworks or case studies
- producing a published Fellowship report to share your findings
- presenting your work through workshops, events or sector networks.
Along the way, you’ll be supported with:
- expert coaching and mentoring
- a peer network and community of practice
- structured guidance to plan, deliver and share your research.
You’ll have the time and support to think deeply, explore new ideas, and translate them into meaningful change.
Funding of $15,000 per Fellowship is provided to support your research and participation.
Applications are submitted through an online application process when Fellowship rounds open.
You’ll be asked to outline:
- your research idea and why it matters
- how international learning will strengthen local practice
- the benefits for learners, industry and the VET system
- how you will share your insights with others.
You’ll also provide supporting information such as employer endorsement and referees.
