Skills SA partnered with the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) to deliver practical professional development webinars for VET and ACE trainers and assessors. These webinars support educators to identify learners’ foundation skills needs and use current, evidence‑based approaches to support learning.
This session introduced the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) and explains how it can be used to support learners in training and assessment.
The session covers:
- Language, literacy, numeracy and digital literacy (LLND) in today’s learning and work settings
- An introduction to the ACSF and how it is structured
- What the ACSF levels mean in practice
- What “spiky profiles” are and how they affect learning
- Support and guidance available for trainers.
ACE and VET educators who want to strengthen their training practice and enhance learner success.
This recording is also suitable for student support staff and staff involved in curriculum, learning design and quality.

Lisa van Beeck, ACER
Lisa has nearly 20 years of experience working in education. She began her career as a primary school teacher and has worked in both Australia and the United States.
Lisa specialises in the assessment of foundation skills and works across curriculum areas, including mathematics and digital technologies. Her work spans all stages of learning, from early childhood to adult education.
Her experience includes test development, curriculum review, setting standards, developing measurement tools, delivering teacher training and creating teaching resources.
